The rating agencies are overreacting after being lambasted for not sounding the alarm on the subprime/MBS bust. What they doing now is like shouting fire in a crowded theatre. Panic creates panic, especially in the markets.
Was it ironic that the US treasuries yields plummeted after S&P downgraded the US sovereign rating last year? The bears on US treasuries got their heads handed to them AFTER the downgrade.
